How I am BEING THE CHANGE:
Senator Obama GETS IT. There are millions and millions of us who have come to realize this, and we know what we mean by IT. ITs in The Audacity of Hope. IT's in every speech he gives. IT's in every aspect of his policies and ideas, debates and town hall meetings. His humility, his humanity, his peacefulness, his spirituality, his ideas about our nation...he is NOW, he is called to duty by a nation that needs a leader who can inspire and direct with calm sensibility, consensus, concilliation, and respect for NOT ONLY U.S. citizens, but all inhabitants of our Earth.

Senator Obama has started more than a campaign--he's ignited a generation of twenty-somethings and re-energized a generation of people wondering what happened to the peaceful message and lessons of the sixties.

I WILL be the change Senator Obama inspires. I will be hopeful. I will look forward to doing my part "in order to form a more perfect union". I will believe that better times are ahead, and I will look toward a future that holds the promise of peace and prosperity.
I've been inspired by:
Martin Luther King Jr., Rosa Parks, Bobby Kennedy, Barack Obama, my parents, my oldest brother, Neil Armstrong, Stephen Hawking, Kay Redfield Jamieson, my female college professors, my son
Things that matter most to me:
My family, my well-being, my cat, my friends. Keeping a roof over my head and Comedy Central on the TV.
My passions:
I am passionate about helping out at least one disenfranchised, disempowered person every day. Someone who's: lost their child to the child welfare system; who's struggling with substance abuse, mental illness, or the cycle of domestic violence; who's just been evicted and needs to find a safe place to sleep; who's pregnant and doesn't know what to do; who's gay and afraid to come out for fear of losing relationships with family and friends. On a global scale, I want to do what I can to make it possible for people to be able to meet their basic human needs of food, shelter, clothing, and water; to decrease my contribution to global warming and other environmental problems; and, secularist and non-Christian that I am, live a life modeled after a well-known ancient Jewish prophet who preached of peace, loving our neighbors, being non-judgmental, and caring for the most vulnerable among us.

This is my cat, B.J. I usually call him Beej.
Why initials for a cat's name? Well, when we adopted him into our family 16 years ago, my son and I had different ideas about what we wanted to name him. My son wanted to name him Jamal, after the then-stellar college hoops star Jamal Mashburn. I wanted to name him Bill--after Bill the Cat, and also after Bill Clinton. Ironic how one's affinities change with time. Back then I loved Bill Clinton. Now I'm just pissed at him. He's playing dirty politics.

Anyhoo, Beej loves Barack Obameow. And so does his momma.

UPDATES AND POW INFORMATION

Wow, I haven't been on here for awhile. My kitty died since I was last on and I really miss him. This is his picture.

Anyway, I got back on primarily to post scans of articles about my uncle, John Stavast. He's been deceased for about four years.

My uncle was a career military man in the Air Force, and a lifelong Republican. He retired as Colonel. If you google his name you can get a run-down of his military… Continue

For my brother

OK, so today...

Started off in a LOUSY mood, about ready to explode at work, coworker John pats my back and says he can see me “gettin’ to that place”. I take a deep breath and close my eyes, then rub them and rub my face. For whatever reason, this is what I do when I’m stressed, really stressed. I think it helps de-stress me. It feels good. It’s kind of a chicken or the egg thing: do I rub my face and eyes as I launch into being stressed, or do I rub my face and eyes to move away… Continue

Where I'm at today

Finally, a moment for personal reflection and reaction to my day. And it’s 9:00p at night. Pardon me, my computer tells me it’s 9:10p. I stand corrected.

This has been a bitch of a day. On the one hand is my paying job. On the other hand is my non-paying job–an Obamaniac/Obamaholic/ Obamanite.

First my paying job. I’m tired of being bitched at by clients, overworked because many people on my team won’t take any responsibility for the work we do, and unsupported by a…
